The Pi Network facilitates the mining of Pi cryptocurrency at no cost to Pioneers, reflecting a deliberate choice to enhance accessibility to cryptocurrency for individuals from all financial backgrounds. Notably, 65% of the total Pi supply is designated for free mining by Pioneers, representing a significant portion for the community within the blockchain ecosystem. Furthermore, the Pi Network does not utilize your phone's resources—such as hardware or network capabilities.

Pi employs a unique consensus algorithm in its blockchain, distinct from the commonly used Proof of Work (POW) algorithm, which is known for its high energy consumption.

 Instead, Pi's consensus mechanism is derived from the Stellar Consensus Protocol (SCP) and the Federated Byzantine Agreement (FBA), both of which do not necessitate energy expenditure to achieve consensus for ledger security. This consensus approach requires nodes to establish quorums and communicate based on a trust graph formed from individual quorum slices to reach an agreement on the next block.

 Mining, in this context, involves contributing to the consensus algorithm to secure the blockchain ledger in exchange for rewards. Unlike POW mining, which demands nodes to expend energy solving complex mathematical problems to facilitate consensus, Pi mining relies on a distributed trust graph. The security circles of individual mobile miners converge to create a global trust graph that supports the consensus algorithm of the Pi blockchain. 

Consequently, each mobile miner participates in mining Pi by enhancing the intersectionality, security, and viability of the Pi blockchain's consensus algorithm, thereby safeguarding the Pi ledger. In contrast to POW miners, whose contributions are energy-based, Pi mobile miners contribute to the integrity of the Pi blockchain through their collaborative efforts. 

The contribution of Pi mobile miners to the Pi Blockchain lies in their establishment of trust relationships and the active validation of these connections. The primary responsibility for executing the consensus algorithm, which relies on the trust graph generated by mobile devices, continues to rest with computer nodes. Currently, the Pi Testnet boasts over 10,000 such computer nodes, which are set to transition to the Pi Mainnet, positioning Pi favorably towards the development of a highly decentralized blockchain network.
